Crankiness

A blabbering bint was behind us at the Ani Difranco concert. Actually, it was a pair, but one of them did most of the talking. There was an older and a younger and the older was trying to get into the younger's pants by impressing her with tales of goings on behind the scenes at the Newport Folk Festival. She talked over, under and through songs like she was in her own living room. If there's any justice, the younger dumped her unceremoniously five minutes after the concert.

I was cranky in general that night. I was overtired and when I get overtired, I'm really sensitive to any irritation like people jostling or behaving badly or loud noise. Perfect recipe for concert going in other words.

Also, I think I'm getting too old to deal with hordes of LUGS. All the eyebrow piercings and attitude, it makes me tired just thinking about it.

Busy August

Ani DiFranco with Erin McKeown this Friday.

Right now I'm knitting this kerchief in this yarn. It's going to be a rainbow colored scarf because I'm going to completely geek it up for Family Week. Some good friends of ours are coming and maybe I'll also try to knit them little gifties out of this yarn. We'll see.

One of the annoying things about Family Week is they don't post the schedule on their website. I realize things change and they don't want to promise what they can't deliver, but for those of us who are working and going to sqeeze in a few events it would be helpful.

The Cape Cod Bead Show is coming up August 20 and 21st. I'll *probably* go, but I hate driving to Falmouth in the summertime and the site is dismal. It's in a big gym and not air-conditioned. I don't know how the venders stand it.

I also want to see the Atomic Bombshells at Vixen Nightclub that weekend. I love modern attempts to revive burlesque and really want to see the show.

All and all, a very busy month.

It's not the heat...

Life has been one giant ball of miserable heat, stickiness, heat rash and swollen and itching mosquito bites.

Until last night when we had a terrific thunderstorm and everything cooled off. Right now it's 78 degrees and only 50% humidity. It's wonderful, absolutely wonderful.

Surprise Ending

I gritted my teeth and got the work done on my car. But I got a pleasant surprise when I went to pick it up and looked at the work order.

When I was talking to the car people on the phone, we discussed work that had to be done and work that should be done. Now, I *thought* that the work that had to be done was going to total $1,400 and I also thought had opted out of the work that should be done.

Because when you're hit with a bill like that, you don't want to add anything.

Instead, the $1,400 was for everything.

So now my car is running VERY well. It's no exaggeration to say it's like driving a new car.

I wouldn't say I'm happy exactly, I don't want another repair bill like that for a LONG time. But every time I drive my car, it's pure pleasure. I'm glad I got all that work done.

Oh no no no...

My car needs work.

$1,400 worth of work.

I am not happy.

Our Very Queer Weekend

We have had the BEST weekend. Saturday, I took the Spousal Unit to see Melissa Ferrick at Vixen. This was mainly a treat for the Spousal Unit who is a big fan, but goddamit, Ferrick rocks. She is terrific and intense performer. And if you get a chance, you should see her and buy all of her albums and make her rich and well known.. Because she deserves to be rich and well known.

Sunday, a friend came for a visit and we wanted to show her the sights so where to go but back to P-Town? Actually, we had a plan. The plan was to see the All The King's Men at Chasers. I have never seen a Drag King show before in my life and had very low expectations, I figured it would be some lip-synching. They are incredible performers with fully choregraphed shows and I won't even try to describe them because that would spoil the magic, but if I were a crazy European monarch, I would undoubtedly become the Kings' patron. I'm not, so I'm just going to tell you that you should see All The King's Men and tell all your friends to see them too.

Also, an event of great importance has occurred in our household. The aforementioned friend who came for the visit came bearing gifts. Some of us may be old enough to remember a pre-DVD device known as the Laserdisc. It was superceded by other technology and never owned except by a few rich people and early adopters but among the offerings burned to Laserdisc was the original Star Wars trilogy. The movies in all their original glory before George Lucas got his creepy paws on them and started "improving" them.

Well, our friend acquired a copy of these movies, burned onto DVD so I have just spent a lovely late afternoon watching "Star Wars" as it was meant to be. Some of you will know this movie as "A New Hope", but originally it was "Star Wars". Perhaps during dinner we will watch "The Empire Strikes Back" as it was meant to be.
