I Don't Hate Mondays

Today I woke up fully refreshed and after coffee, completed a project in twenty minutes that has been weighing on me for the past six months.

After puttering some more, I cleaned up around the office and found a Gameboy that has been missing for three months. I ran an errand I've been putting off for two months. After coming home, I did some touching up a paint job in the bedroom that's been incomplete since October.

In short, it's been a nice, productive little day. The only difference between today and last Saturday is that this was my first week at my new job.

I knew I was whiny and dull and constantly bitching to the Spousal Unit about my previous workplace. I would collapse into weekends, sleep long hours and spend my Sunday afternoons fretting about Monday.

I knew all this, but didn't realize how constantly drained I was and what a difference a new workplace would make. I can't tell you how glad I am to be gone and I'm sure the Spousal Unit is relieved as well.

Pleasant Saturday

Yesterday I got to meet the very charming Rockgirl from the Dune Shack. It was mildly shocking to be meeting someone new on Cape but quite pleasant. We did some yarn shopping at Ladybug Knitting in Dennis and I ended up with a book called Confessions of a Knitting Heretic which looks like an idea book as opposed to a techniques book. I already have a lot to think about just opening it and will write a review when I've had a chance.

I'd like to say I did something exciting with my evening, but all I did was watch the Battlestar Galatica finale and eat dinner. Loved the finale, can't wait until October. All that activity wore me out and I dove face down in the couch and didn't get up until the Spousal Unit woke me up to go to bed four or five hours later. Then I slept until about ten this morning. I think maybe, just maybe, I'm sick.

Hothouse Blogging for Lesbians

Perfect mix of celebrity fluff, politics and pop commentary. Highly recommended.

Confessions of a Chantraphile

Because I need to read more beadwork blogs and get inspired.

One of the commonalities I'm seeing more and more in crafting blogs is that people need to periodically take a step back from what they're doing and re-examine how they're doing it. It's paying attention to the process and scutwork of preparation that allows someone to create. This is not something you see in mainstream crafting magazines, which often put forth a Martha-esque sense of "Oh, I just had these things lying around and what do you know, I created something impossibly attractive in an hour!".

How intimidating and how unnecessary. The process and the scutwork and taking a step back to re-group are part of the whole.
