The Snark is Strong in Young Skywalker

The Cape is FULL of old people and old *acting* people. People who give the impression of being uninterested in anything beyond what happened thirty years ago and how life has really gone to heck since then. If you live here and this isn't how you are, you adopt a resigned tolerance because you're always going to be outnumbered.

Fresh-faced young cashier: "Hmmm...I don't know how much this...(turns around to the ancient crone of a cashier behind her)...Hey, do you know how much this is?"

Ancient Crone Cashier: "Hmmph". (pause) "I remember when I first started here, it was eighty cents."

FFYC: "Would you like me to go look?"

ACC: "Yup, when I first started here it was eighty cents..."

FFYC: "Ah...$1.25."

ACC: "Yup, when I first started here it was eighty cents and..."

FFYC: "I'm surprised you're not telling us how it was eighty cents and you used to have to walk uphill both ways in the snow to buy it."

Bwah! Did she just say that aloud? Okay, that was a little mean, but pretty funny.

The Ancient Crone Cashier looks puzzled for a second.

Ancient Crone Cashier: "No, we didn't have to walk uphill both ways to buy anything....but I remember going to school and we had to walk uphill TWICE a day because we had lunch at home. So we'd leave and come back and in hard weather..."

I take it back, not so mean after all. Fresh-faced Young Cashier is a saint.

As promised earlier, here is a picture of the city of Ottawa. Please click on it, it's really quite stunning.

Yup, I'm a cult member.

I have spent an embarrassing amount of time today playing with the IKEA office planner.

It's way cool and very easy to set up a room and then you can do 3-D views and OMG it's just fun.

And it hasn't all been mindless entertainment. I've now planned the Office of the Gods and since the Spousal Unit didn't have to help me move furniture AND I got her input she's totally with me on this. Just have to go buy it all now.

Oh You Heel.

I'm just about to start the heel for my second sock made with this yarn. I always find this part nerve-wracking. And yes, I am the slowest knitter in the world. I promised the Spousal Unit socks and a kitty hat and damn, I have no idea when I'll get it done.

I just requested The War of Art from the library. I need a creative spur in the ribs and this looks like it might be the thing

Local and Semi-local Lampworking Classes

I have no idea when I'm going to be able to take lampworking classes, but posting the information I've gathered keeps me on track.

Leslie Spencer teaches lampworking. I asked some time ago about prices and she quoted me $250 for a day intensive or $50 per hour.

I have heard the woman at Red Fish, Blue Fish will teach lampworking, but I've never seen her advertise classes or anything like that so I don't know for certain.

Samuell Day Gallery in Cummaquid was advertising day intensives but when I asked the price, it seemed VERY high. I can't even remember what it was but I remember I had a hard time keeping my mouth from gaping open in astonishment.

I've also contemplated going off-Cape to take classes with Marj Bates. She does two day workshops for $295 and also has "open studio" time for a minimum of $60/four hours. The savings might be worth a trip off Cape and she has some interesting projects like drawer pulls.

If anyone reading this blog has taken classes with any of these folks or has other sources, let me know. I'd love to hear any and all feedback.
