Meet Carmen,

*

We had always planned to get two kitties and we found the perfect friend for Sketchy. The two of them were living in the same house and based on our limited information, Carmen might be Sketchy's Mom.

We were hoping for cats that would tolerate each other and even grow to like each other. Carmen and Sketchy adore each other. They groom each other, play together, and sleep curled up together,

Meet Sketchy "Osama" Day

You think he's going to sleep quietly at the foot of the bed. At 3am he wants to "play". Which means stalking and gnawing on your arm and tipping the water glass onto the bed.

He's about six months old and a beautiful, loving cat brimming with purrs and obviously starved for affection. Every time I see him race about the house or nuzzle us on the couch, I smile and feel a little bit more of my sadness easing.

But he needs a friend to play with and wear him out. :)

Quick update

I have had a very busy past two weeks settling into my new job. I don't want to post too much about it here except to say that it's challenging and much more satisfying than my last job.

We had a guest from California last weekend. She was determined to "do" the Cape so we got outside a lot which really meant sitting in our car and watching rain pound down on the ocean. LOL. Actually it's not such a bad way of spending a stormy afternoon on Cape. What's the point of living in a place with weather if you don't go out in it and look once in awhile?

I thank everyone who has kindly commented about our loss. Out of courtesy to our elderly kitty who hated other cats, we did not keep a second cat. So with her gone, we had no cats for the first time in eighteen years. I cannot tell you how quiet and lonely the house seems with her gone.

A home without a cat--and a well-fed, well-petted and properly revered cat--may be a perfect home, perhaps, but how can it prove title? -Mark Twain

We've taken some steps to rectify this situation. More shortly.

R.I.P. Sweetie

Earlier this week, we lost our much beloved cat. She was quite old (nineteen years) and her health had been failing for some time.

There were a lot of stressful vet visits last summer and we made a decision not put her and ourselves through that again. We discontinued the meds she hated taking, fed her favorite treats, and provided her with lots of petting and attention.

We buried her on land that has been in our family for three generations. She was incredibly special and a part of our lives for so very long and we will miss her terribly.

This is from a few years ago when I was making a cat bed for her out of an old futon,
