Life on beautiful Cape Cod.

"I Have This Dream", she said.

"I have this dream", said the woman at the next table. "I dream that I'm in my house, but then I go up a flight of stairs that doesn't exist in life and there's all these new rooms. What do you think it means?"

It means that you're seeing new opportunities in your life, I thought. New journeys. That's standard dream interpretation. But I didn't have the nerve to tap a perfect stranger on the shoulder and say this to her. Even if she was speaking loudly enough so that the entire restaurant could hear about her dreams.

We went out to western Massachusetts this past weekend. We had a really good time eating out and going to the hot tubs, but the best part was just being in an atmosphere where people are *passionate* about things. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting someone who wants to talk politics or the latest book they've read or the really cool something they've found. I've really missed that living here on Cape. People here aren't passionate, they just bitch. Well, they're passionate about their property taxes. That's about it.

So, the Significant Other and I are talking seriously about moving out there. A few years from now and things could change and maybe we'll just chuck it all and move to Canada instead. But I feel like I just went up a flight of stairs and found all these new rooms in my house.

Oh no Mr. Bill!

Watch This Space

We had the Stand Up for Choice event yesterday and I am pleased to note that it seemed to go really, really well. If there were any serious hiccups I certainly didn't see them and there were tons of people and they seemed to have a good time. Yay.

Trouble is, yesterday I was feeling...introverted. I didn't want to go anywhere or or do anything. And then I went to a social event with lots of people and noise and activity. All the introverts in the audience will know that there's nothing worse. I couldn't seem to find my groove and I spent the whole time feeling self-conscious and today I'm feeling gloomy and tired.

It did give me an idea for a project though. I'm still forming this in my mind, but I want to put together some kind of "pro choice primer" for Massachusetts. Some place where you could quickly get information on various topics.

A lot of people are involved in political or pseudo-political activity (like pro choice work) and they have only the vaguest idea of the real politics behind it all. Who their reps are, what the laws actually are.

I'm as guilty as this as anyone else. And people with progressive politics don't have that luxery these days. So...I'm going to do my bit to try and address it.

Edited to add:

I have SHAMEFULLY let my creative work go the past few weeks. Partly planning for this event, partly work, partly it's depressive February. I've got to tend to my knitting (and my beadwork, and my plans to paint the house and so on).

They Had DSL at Woodstock

This appeared in the food column of the Cape Codder,

"...those Necco wafer colored conversation hearts...Those classic messages we wanted to believe used to read 'True Love', 'Be Mine', 'My Gal', 'Sweet Heart' and 'Kiss Me', but now in the vernacular of the times they read 'E Mail'...'Write Me', 'So Fine' and 'Wise Up'. Happily, there are still a few romantic notions...scattered in among the more hippie sayings..."

Hippie sayings? I've long noticed a tendency among certain older people to conflate all "youngsters" in their minds, but this is just ridiculous.

Only on Cape Cod

Cape Codders have hobbies as opposed to careers or vocations. I think it has something to do with it being a vacation spot. We putter instead of accomplishing.

I think of this while looking at this website. Which is about someone's harp music and her tea blends and the synergy between the two. What I find puttering about the site is it's odd, one-off premise that the author decided to just...link tea and harp music one day and produce some products in the living room and that was the end of it.

Curiouser, this has got to be the blandest personal sites I've ever seen. Granted, she's selling a product, but there's Starbucks displays with more soul.
