The only bad part is going to work

Today is gloriously damp and foggy. We have a "dense fog advisory", ...motorists are urged to slow down and use low beams when driving in areas of dense fog through mid morning...

This is the sort of day that separates the real Cape Codders from the tourists. "Real" in this case having nothing to do with how long you've been here, but whether you appreciate the Cape for what it is.

The Cape is not a sunny tropical paradise. The Cape is a vulnerable strip of land sticking out in the north Atlantic ocean.

I love listening to the wind and rain shake the house and knowing that I'm snug inside. I love the sunshine on the water and everything looking newly created. I love the roused angry crash of the ocean right after a storm. I love the faint smell of roses that permeates some back roads on still days in early summer or the piney, earthy smell of wooded trails.

If you can't appreciate this, I feel for you. I really do.

Saturday was fabulous

We went to one of our old favorites, Provincetown. We caught the Blessing of the Fleet parade, windowshopped, ordered lobsters at the Lobster Pot, ate fried dough and ate gelato.

I think the highlight of the day was a surreal encounter with the male store clerk in Toys of Eros. Don't get me wrong, he was helpful. Much too helpful. ;)

Poor guy, no matter how nice and respectful the conversation, I don't want to discuss what makes me orgasm (or what makes my partner orgasm) with a male store clerk.

Pleasant Thoughts

I think I'm going to buy lots of plants and set up our window boxes this weekend.

The artwork for the Gashlycrumb Tinies is coming back for an exhibit at the Gorey House.

Our strawberries are finally ripe. Yum.

Not So Pleasant Thoughts

The damp sluggish weather has settled into my bones and into our house. I saw a silverfish in the living room today and an earwig in the shower. *shudder*

The lawn already needs a trim. My love of plants does not extend to lawncare.

Something is eating our strawberries. *scowls*

You Wash-A-Shores Are So Cute

I know someone who is new to these parts.

"We have really bad mosquitos in our yard. Do you have really bad mosquitoes in your yard?"

Well yes. It's summer on Cape Cod. There are mosquitoes here. Wait until she gets a load of greenheads.

What do you think the odds are of her running back to the city before August?
